ENISA Recommends Certification of Critical Infrastructure Systems

Vendors and asset owners should take a holistic view when it comes to security certification, and not merely focus on the functional element of the devices they use; organisations should invest more on improving the cyber security education of their engineers so that they become more aware of cyber risks and individual system components and risks.

“This report aims to provide decision makers with a thorough description of the security certification status concerning the most impactful equipment in five different critical business sectors. Results of this study should help to improve and harmonize the certification standards and frameworks in place, and pave the way towards a common approach to security certification in these sectors in the EU.”
