Ubuntu and interesting commands

Some crap Ubuntu commands and other stuffs that should only interest me.

1. Install last Firefox Release

sudo add-apt-repository ppa:ubuntu-mozilla-security/ppa
sudo apt-get update
sudo apt-get upgrade
sudo apt-get install firefox-4.0

2. Disable the Graphical Desktop at Boot

sudo apt-get install sysv-rc-conf
sudo sysv-rc-conf --level 026 gdm off

3. Install the Video drivers

sudo add-apt-repository ppa:xorg-edgers/ppa
apt-get update
apt-get upgrade

4. Remove Indicator on Desktop 10.04

apt-get remove indicator-messages indicator-me

5. Sample command to add a repository

sudo add-apt-repository ppa:am-monkeyd/nautilus-elementary-ppa

6. Install Java

deb http://archive.canonical.com/ lucid partner
sudo apt-get update
sudo apt-get install sun-java6-jre sun-java6-plugin sun-java6-fonts
locate libjavaplugin
ln -s /usr/lib/jvm/java-6-sun1.6.0.20/jre/plugin/i386/ns7/libjavaplugin_oji.so

7. Install New WebM Codec

sudo aptitude update
sudo aptitude upgrade
sudo aptitude install gstreamer0.10-x gstreamer-tools gstreamer0.10-plugins-base gstreamer0.10-plugins-good gstreamer0.10-plugins-bad gstreamer0.10-plugins-bad-multiverse gstreamer0.10-plugins-ugly gstreamer0.10-plugins-ugly-multiverse gstreamer0.10-ffmpeg gstreamer0.10-alsa gstreamer0.10-sdl

8. Reconfigure the console Keyboard

dpkg-reconfigure console-setup

9. Sort packages by installed size

dpkg-query -W -f='${Package}|${Installed-Size}\n' | sort -t '|' -k 2 -n

10. Grub

Rebuild Grub

grub-mkconfig -o /boot/grub/grub.cfg
